Like searching for victims

"Writing a novel is actually searching for victims. As I write I keep looking for casualties. The stories uncover the casualties."

Wow, this is a great quote. I hear two meanings in this quote. As people have more publishing options--including self- and now indie-publishing--they're not only seeking the casualties for the page, but also for the purchase.

I've come to think of readers and book customers as those happy victims who are gladly afflicted by great writing and well-woven stories ... even helpful nonfiction. Imagine gunning for those happy casualties and them closing your book with a smile and eagerly sharing news of your book with other willing victims. Write a book; create a conspiracy to make happy casualties of all the readers you can.
