I'm terrible at editing my own work. Just plain terrible. I can read and reread the same paragraph 10 times and still miss my typos.
Sure, when you publish a book a professional editor will fix anything you missed, but having an error free book query and a sample chapter is no joking matter.
(If you plan to self-publish, invest in a good editor. Trust me.)
There are a few techniques I've heard to help you edit your own work.
Read it out loud
Let time pass and come back to it, by then you may not remember what you meant and be able to catch the errors
